An
organization recognized as a Greek-Lettered organization must be a chapter affiliated with a national or international fraternal
organization, denoted by its geographical prominence, existence of a national or international office, existence of national
or international officers of geographical diversity, existence of a national or international constitution and new membership
program, membership in governing or advisory umbrella organization (i.e., National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), National Interfraternity
Conference (NIC), or National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO), and ability to carry insurance sufficient
to cover its risks.
Statement of Privileges
Fraternities
and sororities should be aware of the fact that their existence on campus is a privilege, not a right. They are bound
to follow, not only the regulations set forth by their respective national bodies, but also the rules, regulations and policies
of Wiley College.
Students
seeking membership in Greek-Lettered organizations must meet the following specific criteria:
1. Students must have completed at least thirty hours (30) and have a 2.5 cumulative/G.P.A;
2. Students must be in good standing with the College;
3. Students must submit in writing a special membership criteria/requirements to the Student Activities office for approval;
4. Students must adhere to any additional administrative requirements of the college (e.g., community service hours);
5. Students must have on-campus advisors who may not be substituted without a Change of Information form on record in
the Student Activities office.
6. Students must have an advisor from each organization attend the Pan-Hellenic meetings.
7. The Director of Student Activites (or a designee) will serve as the coordinator of the sorority and fraternity activities.
(This arrangement will not lessen the responsibilities of the sponsors.)
8. Organizations will not be permitted to meet after 12:00a.m.
9. The Pan-Hellenic Council is to develop a schedule of events for the year giving special dates for intake. This schedule
should be submitted to the Director of Student Activities or Associate Vice President of Student Life before the end of September.
10. Hazing in any form is not permit. Disciplinary action will be taken against any individual organization found guilty
of hazing any person desiring to join an organization.
11. All potential persons attempting to join an organization must be in good standing with the College and must be cleared
by the Associate Vice President for Student Life.
12. Each Greek
organization must prove to be in good standing.
Greek-lettered
Organization In-take Process
1. Organizations must notify Student Activities when informational meetings will be held.
2. Once students have been selected by the organization, names must be submitted to the Student Activities.
3. Organizations must provide a copy of the request to the office of Registrar for student grade point averages.
4. The College in-take period will be the 3rd and 4th weeks of October for the fall semester and
the 2nd and 3rd weeks of March for the spring semester.
5. Greek-lettered organizations must define in writing the in-take dates (as described above) as well as procedures in
which students will be involved. (This request excludes procedures that violate the confidentiality of the organization).
Student Activities will sign off on the period.
Intake
Fees
The
Intake Fee is $250 for the Gamma Chi Chapter. Fees are divided among the Chapter Dues and National Dues.
Location of Chapters
Chapters
may be establishing in a college, university, technical institution, city wide, county, or any form of higher learning institution.
For all forms of undergrad chapters, the National Executive Board shall approve the accrediting association.
Incorporation of Chapters
The
incorporation of Gamma Beta Chi National service Fraternity, Inc. falls under the National Grand Chapter. All chapters
that are registered with the National Office hereby fall under the Incorporation that was granted by the State of Florida
and shall be entitle to all honors, privileges, rights, amenities and notability that emanate from the incorporation.
Active Collegiate Membership
Collegiate
Membership shall continue so long as the member remains in good standings with the chapter and continues enrollment in the
institution. Active membership maybe transferred from one chapter to another if the member transfers institutional enrollment,
provided that the new chapter accepts the member as an active member, and that the new member completes the necessary requirements
as set forth by the Grand National Chapter.
Active
Alumni Membership
Alumni
Members are members who were initiated during their collegiate year, have obtained, and Associate or four-year degree.
Active membership shall continue so long as the member remains in good standings with the Alumni Chapter and the National
Office. Active membership may be transferred from one Alumni Chapter to another provided that the new alumni chapter
accepts the member as an active member, and that the new member completes the necessary requirements as set forth by the Grand
National Office.
Requirements for Establishing a Chapter
A
chapter shall be granted only after a National Chapter Application is completed by one or more students seeking the chapter
at an accredited college, university, or technical institution. Prior to the issuance of a chapter, the National Grand
Business Director shall be placed on the fraternity. Should a chapter charter be denied, a written explanation of the
reason for denial must be submitted to the individual or group seeking the charter by the Grand National President and the
Grand national Business Director, who shall forward a copy within fourteen (14) days to the National Executive Board.
An
individual or group, which submits an application for charter, shall have one or more advisors who must be full time members
of the faculty, administration of staff of the institution. The individual or group must meet the requirements for charter
established by the constitution and bylaws of the fraternity.
Suspension and Revocation of Chapters
Charters
may be suspended for one just cause only after an affirmative vote of 2/3 of the National Executive Board. A chapter
whose charter has been suspended shall still be responsible for meeting its yearly financial, administrative and annual charter
reaffirmation obligations to National Grand Chapter, unless deemed otherwise in writing by the National Executive Board.
A charter that has been suspended shall remain suspended until it is reinstated by an affirmative vote of 2/3 of the National
Board. A chapter whose charter remains suspended for two years shall be declared inactive as herein prescribed.
Following revocation of a chapter charter, no induction group shall be recognized no chapter charter at that campus for a
minimum of two years after the charters revocation.
Inactive Chapters
A
chapter shall be automatically considered inactive when it fails to remain in good standings for three consecutive years.
The Grand National President shall declare the charter of an inactive chapter null in void. Re-chartering procedure
shall consist of fulfilling all the requirements as set forth in the constitution and by-laws of the fraternity.
Dissolution of Chapter
Upon
the dissolution of a chapter, a written report concerning all details of the matter complete with any information concerning
money or property shall be filed by the chapter to the National Headquarters and copies sent to the Grand National Comptroller.
If the chapter is not reactivated within three years, such funds shall be transferred to an organization exempt from Federal
Income tax within the meaning of the provisions of section 501c (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Presentation
of Chapters
Chapters
shall be presented by the National Grand Business Director to the Chapter President and/or Advisor.
Induction for Membership
Intake member shall be conferred upon collegiate students of an institution of higher learning or individuals interested
in joining the Alumni Chapter in which Gamma Beta Chi National Service Fraternity, Inc. is located and those, which are selected
to participate in period of preparation and training in the idea and purpose of Gamma Beta chi national service Fraternity,
Inc. The Induction Process shall be according to the official Rituals and Ceremonies of the fraternity. The content
and duration of the preparation period are to be determined by the chapter as far as this matter does not conflict with the
official Constitution, By-Laws, Protocol or Operating Policies of the fraternity.
